My name is Valerie Brooks-Klein, Ph.D., a NJ Licensed psychologist. I am the Founder and Director of VBK Associates, LLC. In addition to offering psychological services in a clinical, private practice setting, I also do on-site consultations, workshops and seminars for businesses, schools, health care offices and hospitals, and community groups. All in effort to promote more effective, progressive, and even preventive solutions to individual or organizational problems before they get to a point where productivity, achievement, or health is negatively impacted.

My varied background, extensive education, vigorous continuing education efforts and opportunities to meet and interact with people and organizations from all sectors of the employment and volunteer field, gives me a unique perspective and approach. My education includes a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Psychology, two teaching certificates, a Master's degree in Counseling, a doctoral degree in School Psychology, a Post-Doctoral Certification in Neuropsychology, Advanced Certification in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and extensive continuing education training.

I've recently been appointed as the Business of Practice Network representative from New Jersey to the American Psychological Association Practice Organization and as Chair of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program sponsored by the New Jersey Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. This is a progressive program that seeks to recognize companies that have created "psychologically healthy workplaces." We are reaching out to all levels of companies and organizations to assist them in determining if they meet the criteria for a psychologically healthy workplace and to share information with them as they attempt to further their efforts in developing more effective and more productive workplaces.

For the past 11 years, I have operated my own general private practice serving people of all ages from infancy through geriatrics. Working with people to identify and remove the emotional blocks to optimal functioning. Being extensively trained in diagnosing and treating psychological disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism-spectrum disorders, brain and cognitive abnormalities, anger problems, mood and numerous other disorders, I have a more advantageous perspective in being able to better identify and improve barriers to more effective functioning and higher levels of productivity. I work very closely with physicians in assisting patients in managing health-related difficulties such as high blood pressure, diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, migraines, weight issues, stress problems, cardiac health and various other behavioral health issues.

Consulting, training and on-site seminars/workshops are ways in which I can bring more preventive type approaches to organizations and larger groups of people. I consult with companies or employers to develop more effective interactions, communications, programs, policies and even individual interventions such as Executive Consulting. Workshop topics such as Work Stress; Optimizing Life; Mind/Body Health; ADHD-Making It Work; Being Happy and many more topics are available for your group.

I have done extensive training in cognitive-behavioral therapy. This is an orientation that helps people to minimize the impact that negative thoughts have on emotions and behavior. What a powerful method to quickly improve emotional and behavioral functioning. I use progressive techniques such as the new EM Wave program from HeartMath to teach and promote healthy breathing and stress-reduction techniques. As a devotee of exercise, dance, tennis, yoga, pilates, and kick-boxing, I advocate a more natural way of bringing your health and life back into balance. Age-management is a relative new field in psychology with the idea of adopting a philosophy that maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle will enable you to live a higher quality of life as you approach mid-life and beyond. Age really is just a number. Being active in mind, body and spirit is the key to feeling and looking younger.
